Celebrate National Peanut Butter and Chocolate Day with Double Dutch

Peanut butter and chocolate go together like vanilla ice cream and hot fudge or like turkey and mashed potatoes; it just works. Both taste great on their own but pairing them together takes the flavors to a whole new level. National Peanut Butter and Chocolate Day is July 23.  This popular combination made famous by the Reese's peanut butter cup is a match made in heaven. In 1847 Joseph Fry Invented the chocolate bar and in 1895 John Harvey Kellogg from the Kellogg Cereal Family, invented Peanut Butter. It wasn’t until 1928, that Reese's Peanut Butter cups were put on the market.

Dynamic sensory contrast is the concept that food and flavors with opposing textures and tastes affect how we perceive a taste. For example, when an ice cream cone meets a soft serve ice cream inside it; the flavor of the two flavors is altered by their texture. Another example would be combining salt with sugar. We all know salt enhances sweet, but sugar is not as receptive to salt; sugar being salty would be very strange in anyone's book.
